USEFUL INFORMATION FOR PRICKLY BAY WHERE I HAVE BEEN A PERMANENT LIVE-ON-BOARD SINCE 2010:
Sure, Prickly Bay is open to the sea but it has excellent holding and with regard to the stories you may hear about "rolling" which also happens now and again in St Georges Bay with the SE swell, us hardy sailors get used to it over time. It is also a good bay to make water in as I have been doing since 2010 and if anything, one needs to keep away from the Lans Aux Epines/Callabash Hotel beach due to sediment in the water on that side, PLUS we are home to Grenada Coast Guard and with all of the private houses with gardens to the waters edge, crime is something we hardly ever suffer from like some of the other bays around Grenada.
CHECK-IN: Customs and Immigration are on the East side of the bay by Prickly Bay Marina, upstairs from the grocery store by the carpark which is straight forward coming in by boat, however, if you are flying back in with parts, then that gets a bit more complicated so feel free to chat to me and I will give you all of the information you need.
LAUNDRY IN PRICKLY BAY: Can be done by Henry's Safari Tours who are on the ground level next to the grocery store below customs and immigration or else you can go to Spice Island Marine by Budget Marine on the North side of the bay and buy tokens from the Spice Island security booth and do it yourself.
VHF COMMS: Ch 68 is our "chosen" hailing channel in Grenada and surrounds. Our working channels are 67, 69, 71, 72 & 74and 66i is a long range repeater so you can arrange to chat around the island.
LIFE IN GREANADA: It is only EC2.50 (USD1) to catch a local bus a short walk from Prickly Bay to St Georges town where you can find an abundance of local fruits, vegetables etc. at good prices. On the way back, BEFORE getting onto the bus, you can ask the conductor/driver if they can drop you "off the bus route" at Budget Marine for double the normal fare per person to save you having to carry those heavy bags with all of the goodies you have bought along the way! It is also exceptionally cheap in Grenada compared to USA and EU to have first class dental work done! Local people are friendly and helpful and will go out of their way to help you find places! Don't be suprised if the cars stop when you stand on the roadside and wave at you to cross. Don't be alarmed by the use of the vehicle horns, this is the way Grenadians warn people in other vehicles or people on the side of the road that they are coming close. Please also don't be shocked if the cars stop in the road for a quick chat, it is only manners to greet everyone with "Good morning, how are you doin?"
